A Small study in Sequences

Some structures are seen at once. Others unfold through sequence — in music, in data, in living systems.

Hi, I'm Júlia. Welcome to my portfolio!

I recently completed my studies in Biomedical Sciences and I am now exploring bioinformatics, with a particular interest in cancer genomics and the complex interactions between tumour biology, the immune system, and the microbiome.

This website is built around a simple idea: sequences. In biology, sequences organise information and shape living systems. In music, a small sequence of notes can define an entire melody.

Navigation in this portfolio follows the same principle — short musical fragments reveal the next section of the page.

BSc Thesis

Compositional and ecological alterations of the intestinal microbiota associated with colorectal cancer and its progression

My final thesis investigated compositional and ecological alterations of the gut microbiota associated with colorectal cancer (CRC) using publicly available 16S rRNA sequencing data from 117 individuals (89 CRC patients and 28 healthy controls). Using R-based microbiome analysis (phyloseq, ALDEx2, SpiecEasi), I analyzed taxonomic composition, alpha and beta diversity, and microbial co-occurrence networks.

Results revealed reduced microbial richness and increased heterogeneity in CRC patients, enrichment of taxa such as Parvimonas and Peptostreptococcus, and a reorganization of microbial ecological interactions where pathogenic taxa such as Fusobacterium nucleatum gained centrality in advanced stages.
