About me
Hi! I'm Montse, a (currently) 22-years old Bioinformatics Master's student from Barcelona, Spain.
My interest in Biology started when I was very young, when my mum introduced me to the TV show Once Upon a Time... Life,
which sparked my interest on knowing how our body worked and how life came to be. With time, my interest also
expanded to ecology, biodiversity and conservation efforts. So it wasn't a surprise when I decided to do a
Bachelor's Degree in Biology at the University of Barcelona.
During my degree I was able to explore many different parts of Biology, but at then end, I fell in love with its
"micro" side and did my minor in Molecular, Cell and System Biology. My Bachelor's thesis
was about characterizing the role of two glycosilation proteins on the stemness of triple-negative
breast cancer, which required many traditional wet-lab techniques, such as cell culture, western blot,
qPCR, amongst others.
However, during my degree I also learned about Bioinformatics through a PhD student who wanted to share it amongst the undergraduate students, and I
found it fascinating. From that point on, I started to learn about Bioinformatics on my own, and at the
end of my degree I decided to pursue a Master's degree in Bioinformatics for Health Sciences at the Pompeu
Fabra University. I'm particularly interested in structural bioinformatics, systems biology, ML and functional genomics.
